Harmony

As we come out of Fall Break, I find myself reflecting on the idea of work-life harmony.

In education, the concept of “harmony” over “balance” feels particularly relevant. Teachers and leaders don’t work 8-hour shifts; during the school year, they live and breathe their work. Teaching, planning, assessing—it’s a continuous cycle. The best educators I know always have their students in mind, which is why balance can be elusive.

Education is a field for creators, and creators don’t stop creating. They find themselves in the zone, losing themselves joyfully in their work. Harmony is when the energy you gain from work doesn’t detract from your energy for life. It’s about loving what you create and allowing that passion to flow between work and life. If you’re enjoying yourself, that’s harmony—and I believe it’s often more attainable than strict balance.

That said, from experience, it’s crucial to maintain healthy boundaries and ensure time for rest when needed. Harmony doesn’t mean working all the time, but rather finding a joyful flow where work and life thrive. That is when the magic happens.
